Derby (pop ~200) is a tin mining centre 34 km (21 mi) east of Scottsdale. Although the mine flourished late last century, these days the region is largely agriculturally-based. A reconstructed mining town surrounds the Derby Tin Mine Museum, the town's major tourist attraction.

Nearby Branxholm is also a former tin mining town. It offers tours of the local hop farms, and "sapphire safaris" (fossicking for gems). The Mt. Horror lookout provides scenic views.

Each October, Derby hosts the Derby River Derby (aquatic events).
